Introduction:
This silencer is completely based on Tinkerer’s, with some slight modifications on my part.
(Note: This is most effective on pump guns.)
Materials:
-Empty 12 oz soda can. I used Mountain Dew
-5” ½” PVC
-A can opener
-Electric drill with roughly 3/8” bit
-Hot glue
-Cardboard
-Sharpie
-Spare foam (lots of it)
-A dull knife or some object that can puncture the bottom of a soda can
-1/2” CPVC coupler
-A vice, vice grips, something to hold the PVC steady while you drill it.
Instructions:
First, take the soda can and can opener. Use the can opener to cut off the top off the can like so:
You may have to repeat this several times. Once you are done, it should look like this:
Flip the can over. Take your PVC, align it to the center, and using your sharpie, draw a circle around it.
Using your puncturing object, punch this out, trying not to harm the can.
Using your drill, drill nonlinear, random holes along the PVC.
If they are too conformed, the silencer will produce a whistling sound, kind of defeating the entire concept. Spread them out, like this:
You can set the PVC aside for a little while. Take your cardboard, and lay the can, face down on it. Draw a circle around the mouth of the can with your sharpie.
Cut it out. Now take the piece of PVC, and place it in the center. Draw a circle around that, and cut it out. Throw the tiny circle away.
Take your PVC and hot glue the CPVC coupler to one end. Allow it to dry. Take your pipe, and push it into the hole you made in your soda can, with the majority of the pipe residing within the can. I did mine so that the coupler was at the end with my punched out hole in it.
Stand the can up, and shove your foam into it. Get as much as your can into the can. Try and keep the PVC centered.
Once you have as much foam as you want, take the piece of cardboard, and glue it onto the end you can opener-ed. Glue it to the PVC and can. On the other end, glue around the area you punched out.
Allow to dry.
That’s it, you’re done. When you want to use it, take the end with the coupler on it, and stick it on the end of a pump gun’s barrel. Fire it. It should, if built properly, significantly reduce the sound of the gun firing.
Application:
This doesn’t really have much practical use in a regular Nerf out. However, if you’re playing in a field with really dense cover and want your location to remain hidden, or are playing a night war, this is ideal.
Again, I hope you enjoy,
